Frequently asked questions
Massage or acupuncture?
Acupuncture uses fine needles at selected points, while massage uses hands-on techniques and pressure. Your choice depends on your preferences, health history and treatment goals. If you are unsure where to begin, Suzie can talk through the options with you.
Acupuncture
What can acupuncture help with?
Acupuncture is used for a range of concerns, with evidence stronger for some types of pain than others. It may offer short-term relief for conditions such as chronic low back pain, neck pain and migraine. We will discuss your symptoms, suitability and expectations during your consultation.
How should I prepare for my acupuncture session?
Before an acupuncture session:
• Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. This makes it easier for the acupuncturist to access different points on the body.
• Eat a light meal 1-2 hours before your session. Avoid going on an empty stomach or immediately after a heavy meal.
• Refrain from consuming caffeine or alcohol, as these can alter your body’s response to acupuncture.
• Make a list of any medications or supplements you’re taking to discuss with your acupuncturist.
• Come with an open mind and relax as much as possible to gain the full benefits of the treatment.
How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
This varies according to your circumstances and response to treatment. Suzie will discuss a plan with you and review how you feel as you go.

Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people find acupuncture to be relatively painless, especially when compared to the sensation of a typical injection. The needles used in acupuncture are very thin, much finer than those used for injections or drawing blood. At times, upon needle insertion, a patient might feel a brief, sharp sensation. Once the needles are in place, some people feel a tingling, warmth, or heaviness at the acupuncture points, but many feel nothing at all. Any discomfort usually diminishes quickly, and many find the experience to be deeply relaxing, with some even falling asleep during treatment.

Cupping
What is fire cupping?
Fire cupping is a traditional practice that uses suction cups on the skin. Before your session, Suzie will explain the technique, discuss your health history and help you decide whether it is suitable for you.
What should I expect in terms of marks on my body after fire cupping, and how long will they last?
After a fire cupping session, it’s common to see circular reddish to dark purple marks or bruises on the areas where the cups were placed. These marks are caused by the suction of the cups pulling blood to the skin’s surface. They are not usually painful, although the area might feel a bit tender for a day or two. The marks can vary in intensity, depending on the individual’s skin type, the strength of the suction, and the duration the cups are left in place. Most marks fade away within a few days to a week, but some can last longer, especially if the person bruises easily.
It’s always a good idea to communicate with your practitioner about any concerns, and they can adjust the intensity of the treatment to your comfort level.
Medical massage
Is medical massage right for me?
Your session is shaped around your concerns, from tired muscles and tension to your comfort with movement. We begin with a conversation about your health, preferences and treatment goals, then discuss suitable techniques and pressure.
A free consultation is a helpful place to start.
How might I feel after a medical massage?
Generally, medical massage might cause light skin reddening or minor soreness, which fades within hours to a couple of days. Rarely, with intense deep tissue techniques, slight bruising may occur, lasting up to a week. Always communicate discomfort or pressure preferences to your therapist.
Your comfort and wellbeing are at the heart of your session.

What is cosmetic acupuncture?

How should I prepare for a session?
• Clean your face of makeup and creams.
• Eat a light meal a few hours prior, avoid caffeine and alcohol on the day, and stay hydrated.
You can find current clinic locations and availability in our booking calendar.
How many sessions will I need?
Your needs and preferences guide the plan. Suzie will discuss suitable options with you and review your experience before recommending further appointments.
